What I read

  • I read the first three volumes of the English translation of Buddha, an epic manga by Osamu Tezuka. It’s charming, funny, brutal, and moving.
  • A Frog in the Fall (and later on), by Linnea Sterte. Very sweet, very charming.

What I watched

  • The Warrior (2001, dir. Asif Kapadia). Starring Irrfan Khan. Strange and intense and thoughtful.

What I listened to

  • Tetsu Inoue and Pete Namlook’s cosmic ambient project, 2350 Broadway
  • The not-secret Duster side-project, Valium Aggelein
  • The foresty dungeon synth of Sunken Grove
  • As I prepared some music for a wedding in June, I listened repeatedly to:
    • “Float On” by Modest Mouse
    • “This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody)” by Talking Heads
    • “Round Our Skiff” and “Isle au Haut Lullaby” by Gordon Bok
    • “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers

What I did

  • I traveled to Lisbon, Portugal, for the first time to attend a friend’s wedding. I bought new shoes.
  • I had my end of term Uilleann pipes recital.
  • Ichiko Aoba played a show at the NCH. It was excellent.
